Thailand is the most popular destination for first-time travelers to Southeast Asia. A Buddhist country of approximately 65 million people, Thailand has amazing food, a vibrant and distinct culture, some of the best beaches in the world, and a well-developed tourist infrastructure that makes getting around the country relatively easy. Thailand was the first Southeast Asian destination for me, I somehow managed to work out a two-week vacation when I was working at Trout Unlimited to take off and visit Bangkok, Koh Samui, Phuket, and Koh Phi Phi. A pretty standard traverse of the typical Thailand tourist trail to be sure, but the adventures from that trip still bring back memories every time I touch down in Bangkok.
